The role of Museum Retail Operations Manager is key to ensuring the delivery of a truly unique M+ cultural retail experience. Through inspired on the floor management, this role promotes staff motivation and a proactive sales environment that delivers an on-brand message to drive destination shopping, visitor experience excellence and profit maximisation. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Museum Retail Sales and Business Development, the job incumbent takes a key role in driving retail sales performance, promoting M+ brand message, monitoring of profit & loss, people management, business development opportunities and all the operational aspects of two permanent shops and multiple special exhibition pop-up shops.


You will be responsible for:

  • working closely with Senior Manager, Museum Retail Sales and Business Development to guide and coach the M+ Retail Sales team towards maximising revenues and profitability for permanent shops and pop-up shops;

  • assisting in preparing budgeting, monthly profit & loss, sales targets, report and analysis for M+ Retail shops;

  • motivating Retail Sales team to provide excellent customer experience to achieve sales targets and KPIs; ensuring the shops are well presented to meet M+ Branding standards and engaging merchandisers to eliminate out of stock conditions;

  • liaising with relevant counterparts to rollout retail related systems, assisting in drafting relevant policies, procedures, protocols; managing visual merchandising, inventory, loss prevention measures, workplace safety and compliance as well as tidiness and conditions of both front-of-house and back-of-house area;

  • deploying an efficient and cost-effective mix of manpower and managing frontline staff scheduling via system;

  • performing regular coaching with the team and encouraging open communication to anticipate or resolve issues;

  • developing and delivering training programmes to ensure Retail Sales Team are equipped with right level of skills, museum and product knowledge to create a unique experience and memory for the guests;

  • assisting other internal teams to deliver a unique M+ experience through events and F&B to members, donors, patrons and VIPs; and

  • performing any other duties as direct by supervisor when necessary.


You should:

  • possess a recognised university degree in business administration, hospitality management or other relevant disciplines;

  • have at least 8 years of relevant experience in lifestyle retail or hospitality institution;

  • demonstrate strong negotiation, influencing, collaboration and problem-solving skills with good business acumen and numerical sense to drive sales targets and capable of exploring new business opportunities;

  • possess strong leadership capability and attributes which aim delivering the best business results and effective team management of a sizable and diversified workforce;

  • demonstrate good knowledge of business management, marketing planning and retail operations related systems;

  • be a self-motivator, highly organised, detail-oriented, proactive and possess can-do attitude;

  • be fully committed to embracing and cascading M+ Brand philosophy; and

  • have excellent written and spoken communication skills in English and Chinese, proficiency in Putonghua or any other language is an advantage.
