The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes.  The museum comprises 7 600 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations.  With the construction work in full swing for completion in 2022, the HKPM is seeking Associate Curators who will assist the management and organisation of exhibitions at the future exhibition galleries.  

 

You will be responsible for:

  • working closely with the Head Curator, Curators, and other curatorial colleagues on planning and implementation of exhibitions, and contribute to the development of the curatorial strategies and programmes of the HKPM;
  • assisting in coordinating with the Palace Museum on all matters related to the arrangement of displaying its collection in the HKPM’s standing and special exhibitions, as well as other collaborations on research and curatorial matters;
  • assisting in researching, planning, developing and driving pre-opening exhibitions and public programmes to create awareness from the local, regional and global attention to the HKPM prior to its opening;
  • assisting in content development and conduct academic research for preparation of write-ups for museum exhibitions, publications and other programmes;
  • reviewing editorial, translation and transcript of all exhibition related materials and publications; and
  • performing other duties as assigned by supervisor when deemed necessary.

 

You should:

  • possess a recognised university degree in Art History, History, Cultural Studies or other relevant fields; an advanced degree is preferable;
  • have at least 3 years of experience in research for curating, planning and / or implementing exhibitions, or exhibition publications in museums or other comparable institutions;
  • have good knowledge of Chinese arts or art history;
  • showcase strong research and communication skills to convey ideas to a wide range of audiences;
  • possess a collaborative mindset and ability to work in a fast-moving dynamic environment; and
  • be proficient in written and spoken English, preferably with knowledge of Cantonese and Putonghua, or any other second language.
