Copyright and Licensing Officer (Ref:19148)

You will be responsible for:

  • researching copyrights for objects in M+’s collections, evaluating and tracking status;
  • assisting supervisor in coordinating copyright projects including but not limited to clearing rights, acquiring licenses and researching orphaned works;
  • assisting internal departments with questions relating to copyrights;
  • managing both licensing in and licensing out processes including:
  • sourcing and securing media and/or permissions, negotiating fees, managing project budget, processing and tracking payments;
  • assisting in managing incoming media in M+’s systems and maintaining permissions databases and project records;
  • monitoring and approving credit/copyright lines;
  • processing image requests and associated rights clearances;
  • supplying media and rights documentation, tracking use of media supplied and securing complimentary copies of resulting publications; and
  • liaising with colleagues regarding production (photography and digitisation).
  • performing any other duties as may direct by supervisor when necessary.

You should:

  • possess a recognised university degree or equivalent;
  • have 3 - 5 years of relevant working experience in image research and rights clearance in Publishing, TV/Film and/or Music production; have passionate commitment to arts and culture;
  • possess knowledge of applicable copyright law and licensing practices;
  • be highly organised with excellent follow through and ability to multiple projects, set priorities and meet tight deadlines;
  • be proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook and relevant software when required; and
  • have excellent written and oral communication skills in English, preferably in Chinese.
