Reporting directly to the Performing Arts Division Deputy Director Operations, the job holder will build and lead a new team with an aim to address the urgent operational needs to develop and leverage all possible earned income for WKCD Performing Arts venues. Earned income may come from venue hire, experiential production development, ticket sales, merchandising and e-Commerce, as well as membership schemes. He/she needs to develop a sound business plan/practice which integrates artistic vision and business sustainability. This is to support the ultimate goal of supporting the mission-driven artistic activities of the District and ensuring the District’s artistic institutions are sustainable. The Head and his/her team will oversee venue hire, experiential product development and sales, merchandising/e-Commerce. They will coordinate closely with other teams and departments on patron member and donor programmes where necessary.


You will be responsible for:

  • leading revenue-generating activities driven by the performing arts programmes and activities of each arts centre;
  • building and leading consistent earned revenue streams to agreed targets, establishing sustainable partnerships, including group ticket sales, venue buy-outs, and other unique performing arts experiences for corporate as well as mass-market customers;
  • developing packaging and pricing strategies for performing arts programmes and experiences targeted at specific market segments through leveraging existing programmes and education assets;
  • maximising business development opportunities through identifying and developing group sales channels and business partnerships, including MICE, tourism and hospitality partners;
  • developing retail strategies and merchandising/products to build and market individual arts centre branding identities, including through e-Commerce;
  • driving initiatives to maximise earned income streams and generate resources through driving business partnership for artistic programmes;
  • coordinating as needed with the Development Department to strategise plans high-level sponsor partnerships;
  • working collaboratively with various teams in Performing Arts Division and across Authority divisions/departments for programme and event logistics to service corporate customers;
  • managing resources and budgets to ensure they are productively utilized in accordance with the Authority’s policies; and
  • developing and setting KPIs/metrics to measure impact and implement plans and procedures for effective monitoring and evaluation of the initiatives/schemes.

You should:

  • possess a recognised university degree in Business Administration, Sales and Marketing, Business Development, Arts Administration, Cultural Studies or equivalent;
  • have at least 15 years of relevant experience, mainly in business development, retail, merchandising or related positions, of which at least 8 years should be in senior management position. Business and sales/marketing experience is priority, experience in institutions or organisations in arts, performing arts or cultural institutions is a bonus; leadership experience in start-ups, non-profits and public organisations is desirable;
  • possess good networks and relationships with business units who are interested in performing arts and culture;
  • possess knowledge and experience in producing and managing business partnerships for artistic programmes;
  • have good interpersonal and communication skills with strong administrative and multi-tasking abilities; and
  • have good oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese.
