M+ is seeking exceptional candidates for the following roles for the Hong Kong participation in the 58th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia (Venice Biennale) from May to November 2019, co-presented by M+ and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.  As part of our commitment to nurture local talent in the arts, the following roles offer the opportunity to gain unique insights into the working of the world’s oldest and most renowned international art exhibition.

Venice Biennale Exhibition Internship

The Internship offers invaluable opportunities for aspiring young professions to experience the 58th Venice Biennale as they take part in the realisation of the Hong Kong participation. Successful candidates will be provided with flights, accommodation and a living allowance for the duration of their stay in Venice.  Professional training and briefing sessions will be offered to successful candidates in Hong Kong prior to their internship periods, where they will meet with the artist and curators.

Working Location: Venice, Italy

Duration: around 6 weeks

Number of vacancies: 2 vacancies are available in each specific period below

The appointees are required to indicate their availabilities during the following specific periods in their applications:

  • 1 May – 14 June 2019
  • 12 June – 27 July 2019
  • 25 July – 8 September 2019
  • 6 September – 20 October 2019
  • 18 October – 1 December 2019

You are responsible for:

  • assisting the team in the realisation of the exhibition and related events;
  • supporting the daily operations and the safety of the exhibition site and artworks in Venice;
  • assisting visitors and providing guidance as necessary;
  • answering press and marketing related queries, and directing them as necessary;
  • contributing regularly to the publications on the website with updates of the exhibition and your experience in Venice;
  • reporting numbers of visitors, press and general observations on a weekly basis; and
  • furnishing a detailed report of experience after the closing of the exhibition.

You should:

  • be a Hong Kong permanent resident (aged 18 or above);
  • possess a recognised university degree in art history, fine arts, art education or related discipline;
  • have at least 1 year of working experience in the contemporary art field, exhibition-making or other related fields;
  • demonstrate knowledge in and passion for contemporary art;
  • have great interest in developing a career in the field of exhibition-making and curating;
  • be a good team player and able to work independently;
  • have a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility; and
  • have a good command of spoken and written English and Chinese.
